This morning at 0700 we ran 5-minute contact simulations in the east lot using a decoy dog, focusing on a two-handler approach, a 10-second risk scan, and catch-pole placement behind the forelegs. I’m having officers verbalize the safety checklist (gloves, eye protection, exit path) before closing distance — what tweaks have made your run-throughs safer or more realistic?
Add a bystander-yelling roleplayer during the ‘10-second risk scan’ and run one low-light rep; try exit-path cones.
Build a forced disengage into the ‘10-second risk scan’: if two hazards present, lead calls ‘bail’ and both reverse along the exit path before any catch-pole behind the forelegs. At 0700 in the east lot, wet a strip so they practice that retreat on slick ground. @chase_morton84’s low-light idea is solid; I’d also swap primary/secondary once per run to validate the two-handler handoff.
