When Redefining 'Chasing Tails' Goes Wrong

I had a call last week about a dog that decided to take off after a squirrel during a community event. Picture this: me sprinting across the park, trying to catch a dog that thinks it’s in an Olympic race. Let’s just say the only thing I caught was laughter from the onlookers. Anyone else have similar stories of pets turning into four-legged escape artists?

And i totally relate to that! I once had to resort to bribing a friend’s dog with treats because he had his own agenda chasing after a butterfly… Next time, maybe try bringing along a squeaky toy or some high-value treats to distract them if they decide to make a break for it.

, I’ve had my share of ‘Olympic chases’ too! Just last month at a fair, my golden retriever thought sprinting after a balloon was the highlight of his day. You’d think all the ‘trained professionals’ of a dog park would be able to keep their pets in check, right?

I totally understand the struggle with learning curves — online resources can feel overwhelming. I found that pairing up with a buddy for hands-on practice made a huge difference in grasping tricky features. Have you considered reaching out for mentorship?

Sounds like a classic case of canine mischief! I once had to take part in an unplanned game of fetch when my pup decided the trash bag was his new plaything. How do you think we could train them to be a bit more reliable, like teaching them the ‘stay’ command before the squirrel chase begins? @mmurphy22.

That’s hilarious! I once chased my beagle at a picnic when he decided the grilled chicken would make a great snack. What worked for me was keeping some treats handy to redirect his attention; it didn’t always work, but it made the laughter easier to handle.

Chasing dogs at events is a wild experience! Last time, I chased my Doberman with a frisbee he was more interested in ignoring. Ever thought of using a long line for better control?
