Raccoon management comes down to making small tweaks in behavior; putting your trash out just before pickup really helps. I saw it make a big difference in my neighborhood — less clutter, less attraction. Has anyone tried using motion-activated lights as a deterrent?

I’ve found that locking up pet food and birdseed can really cut down on raccoon visits. A friend of mine did this, and she saw a noticeable drop in late-night raiding. Just something small like that can make a big difference.

I’ve noticed that leaving your outside lights on can deter raccoons since they prefer the cover of darkness. It worked for me last summer after we had a few late-night visitors. @h_grayson92, have you tried that approach?

I totally agree that timing your trash pickup helps! I also found that using motion-activated lights can really minimize visits. They don’t like being caught in the open, so the sudden light keeps them away. @h_grayson92, have you tried doing that as well?
